Mobility as a service
We usually rely on multiple systems to plan, book, and pay for travel. Mobility as a service (MaaS) integrates these systems to create one digital service for transport. Users typically access this service via a mobile app.
we will begin to launch the Transport for West Midlands (MaaS) app in 2024. It will provide residents and visitors with a digital one-stop-shop for travel using public, active, and shared transport. As part of the programme, we will also integrate the systems we use for customer service, accounts, passenger information, and transactions.
The project is funded by the Department for Transport (DfT) Future Transport Zone programme.
Aims
MaaS has great potential to help us make progress towards emerging vision for the region. It aims to:
- Build trust in our regional mobility system by improving user experience
- Broaden choice through integration, centralised information, and simple ticketing
- Reduce emissions and improve health by incentivising shared and active travel
- Enhance the economic sustainability of our network by reducing costs and encouraging innovation
