Washwood Heath

What’s happening?

In the Washwood Heath area of Birmingham, works to accommodate the arrival of HS2 will be ongoing over the next decade and shortly gather momentum. These works include the demolition and reconstruction of both Aston Church Road overbridge and Saltley Viaduct.

The Saltley Viaduct works will begin upon completion of the Aston Church Road works. A new bridge will be constructed to carry the high speed train over the Lawley Middleway dual carriageway.

The first area of works will be begin in the area with the creation of a brand new bridge to carry the high speed train across the dual carriageway.

Travel tips

You will still be able to get to where you need to go, but consider the following:

Alum Rock Road. Please check your bus journey after Woodwells Road. Your journey may take longer with displaced traffic in the area so please allow extra time.
Plan ahead and leave more time for your journey. If you travel, you’ll need more time for your journey to take account of changes and diversions.
Please use public transport. to help reduce congestion on this key route and junction.
